Projects

MONARAGALA

In this area we started in 2004 with the supply of additional educational tools, meals, the establishment of a library, support for the handicapped and provision of scholarships for secondary education.

We started with one primary school with 140 pupils; in 2005 we expanded the program to 5 additional schools with 500 pupils, in 2006 to 8 schools with over 1.000 children, and this year the program includes over 2.000 pupils at 14 schools in the area.

We have negotiated for the Government to supply the school meals. In a neighbouring school of 2.000 pupils the foundation pays for English lessons. The financial side of this project has grown from 3.000 Euro to approximately 10.000 Euro per year.

NARAHENPITA

In the past, board members of the foundation have personally supported a primary school in the ghettos of Colombo for children of unwedded mothers. Considering the low level of activities we do not see a need for the foundation to support this project at this point in time.

ANNA-WILHELMINA HOME FOR CHILDREN MADAMPELLA
(near Negombo)

A foundation with which we cooperate has built a home for 60 orphans, which was recently opened by the Dutch ambassador in Sri Lanka. We are one of the main supporters of this, together with NCDO (the Dutch Government) and Plan-Nederland.
The children who live in this home are attending schools in the area and are being supported in their homework, sports and anything else they need. For the future we have agreed to support the running costs for 5.000 Euro’s annually. Anyone who is interested can visit this home, just give us a call and we will organise this.
